Introducing a new post format
Notes on Progress and Complexity
Recently I realized that not all content I have fits the existing structure. Most of the things I write here are self-contained articles, which, while potentially cross-referencing between each other, can be read separately.
Still, I need to introduce a new format to address the necessity of showing the practical implications of my work on progress. A central theme in the book is that all complex systems share the same fundamental patterns of operation, with both their problems and solutions being similar when viewed from the right level of abstraction. To showcase this, I am writing a series of Notes on Complexity and Progress, each on a seemingly completely different topic. I’ll cover maritime disasters, ecosystem restoration, and even football (!).
Below is the format that each note will follow:
The most important element is the metalanguage, which I introduced in the recent post here. I aim for each note to be as short as possible to comply with the aim of the series.
Finally, if you have interesting ideas on what I can cover with these notes, get in touch with me here: https://studyofprogress.org/contribute/.
P.S. Substack can be limited in terms of formatting, this is why I will be uploading the note PDFs on the SOP.org website, where I can take full advantage of typography and layout. Of course, I’ll share the links to these files here as well.
